Synopsis

Prodigy violinist Aono rekindles his passion for violin after meeting Ritsuko Akine, and they enroll in Umimaku High School’s orchestra club.

Episode 1

Hajime Aono

Aono Hajime is a boy whose father is Aono Ryujin, a world-renowned violinist. Hajime, who grew up watching his father's back, has achieved good results in numerous competitions and is praised as a violin genius boy. However, for a certain reason, he stopped playing and spent his days feeling lethargic. And then, in the fall of my third year of junior high school, the day comes when the time that has stopped quietly begins to move. The trigger was to meet a girl who was a classmate. Furthermore, as he is about to go to high school, he learns of the existence of a high school orchestra club.

Ritsuko Akine

Hajime tries to distance himself from the violin, but Ritsuko and Mr. Takeda refuse to allow him to. Back to the wall, he ends up agreeing to serve as a tutor to Ritsuko, but is it really reluctantly?

Umimaku High School Orchestra Club

Hajime is starting to regain a taste for the violin and decides to join the Umimaku high school, known for its orchestra, on the recommendations of Mr. Takeda. However, his test scores are far from sufficient to enter it. Even with the help of Ritsuko, Hajime will have to work hard if he wants to have a chance to achieve his goal.

Nao Saeki

Despite an impressive performance in the orchestra club auditions at the start of the school year, Hajime still hesitated over joining the high school orchestra. Torn between his desire to reconnect with the violin and the fears of his past, how will Hajime come to a decision? The situation is complicated for him by the appearance of Saeki, who entered the school on a musical recommendation, and won the same competitions as Hajime in subsequent years.

Hajime finds himself having to play alongside Nao Saeki, the young prodigy that everyone seems to admire. The second and third-year club musicians, led by the charming Sō Harada, show off the fruits of their work to the new first years.

Rainy Day

The orchestra's trial period for the first-years is finally over. Rehearsals start in earnest for Hajime and the other new members of the club. Will Akine find her place among the veterans who make up the high school orchestra?

Kozakura Haru

The club settles into its routine, but some students are still struggling to adjust to their new life in high school. This is especially the case for Haru, who finds it difficult to integrate into her class, and who also seems to be particularly disturbed by Hajime.

Air on the G String

Haru is skipping school after seeing the person who was the cause of her transfer during middle school. She has also been absent from club activities. Ritsuko's concerned message to her is answered only by the words "I'm fine". These words are like a curse for Haru, but she can't tell Ritsuko how she really feels even though she considers her a kind person. Ritsuko remembers the promise made between the two of them that they would play violin together in the school orchestra, and decides to take action.

Less than two months are left before the summer concert. The main piece will be Symphony No. 9 of Dvořák, popularly known as the New World Symphony. Concert members will be selected by auditions, and the order of the seats will be determined by the skill displayed. Who will be the chosen?

The novices and the experienced

There is only one week to got before the auditions. While Hajime and the others practise tirelessly, the beginners finally have the opportunity to participate in group rehearsals, which some of the veterans do not look upon very favourably.

The Night Before the Decisive Battle

The auditions are now looming, and all the members of the orchestral club commit themselves to the maximum. Aono and Saeki get to know each other a little better during extra mathematics tests; but this makes them late for the auditions, making themselves unpleasantly noticed by Professor Ayukawa who reminds them that the order of their seats will be decided by how they play.

The Auditions

The big day for the auditions has finally arrived. Will Aono manage to convince Mr. Ayukawa of his qualities as a musician? Will he win his little duel with Saeki? When Aono starts to play, even the judge who is facing away from the players can tell who it is.

My Own Timbre

The result of the auditions shocks some of the second-years: Aono and Saeki will be seated in front of most of them, just behind the concert-master, Harada, with Aono on the outside. However, which will be outer in the end will depend on their performance, of which Mr. Ayukawa will be the sole judge. Meanwhile, as if that were not enough, Aono needs to take care not to get bad marks on his tests, under penalty of exclusion from the performance.
